I can not put into words the sadness I feel for your loss. I remember Dustin only a little bit as I was so young. I am David Gardner's daughter. I was just recently told about this tragedy and I wanted to express my condolences. My husband and brother are both in the military and everyday I thank these brave soldiers for the freedom my family and I have each and everyday. If it wasn't for strong men like Dustin our country would not be as wonderful as it is. I am proud to say that even though I was unable to get to know Dustin on a more personal level and be more involved in his life that he is a hero to me and I will forever be grateful to him and his sacrifice he made to this country. My Condolences to you / Charles (Skip) Wheeler SP/4 U.S. Army (No Relationship. Only an old soldier ) I didn't know your son. I'm just an ex soldier who served his country with pride from 1969 to 1976. Your son, along with so many other soldiers are giving their all. On my Tagged page I have a soldiers prayer since I made the Tagged Profile. On my wrist, I wear a yellow band that says, "Until they all come home". I will wear it until all our men and women come home.
No I didn't know your son but I can tell you I'm proud of him for what he did and what he gave. I saw the true movie about an officer who escorted a body of a Marine home. It had Kevin Bacon in it. I can tell you all the way through where so many paid tribute to that one soldier, I pray that all soldiers that come home from any far away land will always get that respect.
I know saying what I have can't and won't bring your son back. But know there are many people like me who even though may never say it, your son is a Hero in every way. God bless him and May God ease the pain that his absence has caused. He is truly an Angel in heaven.

semper fidelis / Joe Hyler (team/squad leader in iraq ) Its taken me along time to be able to write on here, not having the words and im not sure i do now, i had the pleasure of meeting dustin early in our marine corps careers and i became his team leader prior to leaving on our second deployment to iraq, up until that point we were marines who knew each other solely based on living a few doors down from each other and enduring many of the hardships in day to day marine corps life, it wasnt unitl i became his team leader that i really got to know him and even then it wasnt really anything more than marine to marine.. but to this day i can still remember the first real conversation we had while sitting in a fighting position off a main service road in iraq, just the two of us talking to each other for hours trying to fight the boredum and from that moment on i realized how much ive learned from him on becoming a leader of marines and how amazing it was to have met a great new friend and to be able to forget about home and all the things ive missed. because the stories he would tell me, and the funny inside things that he would just keep repeating over and over that had me rolling out of the hole we were in made it so much better to be there because of him, he would tell me about how much his mom meant to him and how she was his world and how she was watching his beloved fast and furious car and all the things he wanted to do to it when he got home..i truely loved hearing all his ideas for it we passed alot of time just talking about that stuff. i was with him the night he passed and it hurt bad because here is this marine who is now someone i was so happy to be able to call a friend and not just my fellow marine and what makes this hard for me to write is that i needed him to be relentless on that gun, i needed him to have my back and he did, and never complained not once thats a quality so rare these days, someone so willing to just do his job with no complaints.. he has since inspired me to do more as a marine and ill never forget my friend.. my heart and thoughts have always gone out to his friends and family. and i love that this website exists.. it shows me where he got the qualities that made him something special.. semper fidelis...
